Department of Comprehensive Dentistry

 

The Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, made up of three divisions, is comprised of over 150 faculty and staff responsible for accomplishing the departmental missions of teaching, research, and service. The pre-doctoral division is charged with the pre-clinical and clinical training of dental students . The disciplines of general dentistry, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, oral medicine/radiology, prevention, and community outreach are coordinated to provide a comprehensive educational experience for future dental practitioners. A unique general dentistry model is used to prepare students for general practice or advanced education upon graduation. The post-doctoral division conducts dynamic advanced education programs in general dentistry, prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial radiology, and dental public health. In the research division department scientists conduct world class research studying a wide variety of oral and systemic conditions. Community service, including patient care, is provided by general dentists and specialists in the department faculty practice and numerous outreach programs to San Antonio and South Texas.
